ABL allows Nakiea Miller comeback, blacklists Chris Alexander

The Asean Basketball League announced Monday via press release that they have allowed the AirAsia Philippine Patriots to reinstate Nakiea Miller while also blacklisting their former import Chris Alexander.   Alexander left the Patriots on April 19 without giving the squad prior notice, forcing them to play with just a single international import against the Indonesia Warriors on April 20, a game they lost 79-104.   The ABL's competition rules require teams to suit up two international imports. However, they also prevent teams from making personnel changes "due to injury, suspension or release" once they've played their 16th assignment of the season.   Alexander's debut with the Patriots, a 78-93 drubbing to fellow Philippine team San Miguel Beermen, was the squad's 16th game.   However, documentation provided by the Patriots convinced the ABL board to allow the squad to reinstate Miller as their second international import for the rest of the season.   The board also ruled to blacklist the former Barangay Ginebra King import Alexander, as well as bring up the matter to FIBA Asia, which could see Alexander incur further penalties.   Alexander had been BGK's import in the on-going Commissioner's Cup for three games before being released by the PBA team. He then signed with the Patriots, but suited up for just a single game before his sudden exit.   According to Alexander though, he sent the assistant general manager of the Patriots a text message and a Facebook message that he had to attend to a court case back in the United States, and that he would return the following week.

That information didn't seem to sway either the Patriots or the ABL however, resulting in the sanctions imposed on him. - KBK, GMA News
