NBA: Kevin Garnett is not yet retiring, despite what parody Twitter account says

Boston Celtics fans were once again the target of fake rumors regarding one of their players, when a Twitter account purporting to be that of ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith tweeted out that big man Kevin Garnett had decided to retire, with the team scheduling a press conference to formalize the announcement.

A secondary glance however, quickly reveals that the account is a fake. The username reads "@stepehnasmifh" not "Smith" and the profile itself describes the tweeter as "The fake Stephen A. Smith." The real Stephen A. Smith tweets using @stephenasmith, which is a Twitter-verified account. A rejuvenated Garnett led the Celtics to the cusp of a return to the NBA Finals, averaging 19.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.45 blocks, before falling in seven games to eventual titlists, Miami Heat. While the 36-year-old is in fact contemplating retirement, no official announcement regarding his status for next season has been released yet. Still, as of writing, more than 3,000 people have retweeted the fake Garnett retirement announcement tweet. Even one NBA player, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson, was fooled, tweeting out, "Tough day for the League to see KG hang Em up. One of the Greatest to Ever do it. #Salute!" Celtics fans woke up this morning to the news that Rajon Rondo had been traded to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Tyreke Evans and the fifth overall pick in Thursday's (Friday, PHL time) NBA Draft. That also turned out to be fake, as the information came from a Twitter account parodying ESPN newswriter Chris Broussard. - AMD, GMA News
