NBA: Celtics complete sign-and-trade for Courtney Lee; Trail Blazers added to the mix
The Boston Celtics have completed a sign-and-trade deal for Houston Rockets swingman Courtney Lee, with the Portland Trail Blazers also getting into the mix, the team announced via press release. The trade has the Celtics getting the 26-year-old Lee, while in exchange, sending out JaJuan Johnson, E'Twaun Moore, Sean Williams and a future second round pick to the Houston Rockets, while the Portland Trail Blazers land Sasha Pavlovic, two future second round picks and cash considerations. The inclusion of the Trail Blazers in the mix allows Boston to give Lee a larger salary. According to Mark J. Spears of Yahoo Sports, Lee will now ink a four-year $21.5 million contract that is fully guaranteed, up from the $4.25 million per year he would have received without Portland's participation.
Lee played 58 games last season with Houston, where he normed 11.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals. Aside from being a more than capable defender, the Celtics were also attracted to Lee because of his career 43.9 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
