NBA: League looks to penalize floppers
The days of some of the most fit athletes in the world tumbling to the floor after barely getting grazed could be over soon. CBS Sports' Ken Berger reports that the NBA is working towards finalizing "a new procedure to deal with flopping" for the upcoming 2012-13 season. "The procedures will likely involve a post-game review as opposed to calling it as an in-game infraction," spokesman Tim Frank said in a statement released to the media. Flopping, a term that originated in soccer, refers to a player falling to the ground after minimal contact. It is usually employed as a tactic to draw a foul call from officials. The measure came about after a meeting by the league's competition committee two weeks ago. Berger adds that this new policy will not need approval by the NBA Board of Governors, "because it does not involve a rule change for on-court play." While the details of the plan have not yet been fleshed out, it is likely that senior officials will review games and impose fines the day after for plays which were identified as flops. - AMD, GMA News
