PBA: Air21's Rob Reyes fined P10,000 for hitting, taunting Alaska's Calvin Abueva


PBA Commissioner Chito Salud slapped Air21 big man Rob Reyes with a P10,000-fine and a flagrant foul penalty for his actions in the dying seconds of the game between the Air21 Express and the Alaska Aces on November 14.
 
The PBA Media Office released the following statement:
“The Office of the Commissioner, after summoning Rob Reyes, fines him the sum of 10,000 pesos for committing  flagrant foul penalty one on Calvin Abueva and for trash talking/taunting him immediately thereafter during the last minute of the Alaska-Air21 game on November 14."  "Reyes’ acts are aggravated by the were unnecessarily committed when play had already shifted away from both player."  While the illegal acts escaped the attention of the game officials resulting in a non-call, I am exercising the Commissioner’s authority to sanction players who upon playback and review are deemed to have committed a dangerous play or a rough and unsportsmanlike tactic that was undetected in the course of the game."  "I am also reminding our players to refrain from needlessly exposing other players, along with themselves, to serious injury and undue hurt through intentional and blatantly dirty and rough play as this will invariably be met with penalties and sanctions from my office.”
 
This fine comes at the heels of a four game day suspension for Referee Jimmy Mariano for failing to call a foul on Reyes in that crucial stage of the game. - Carlo Pamintuan, GMA News
