NBA: San Antonio Spur Stephen Jackson fined for threatening OKC Thunder's Serge Ibaka
San Antonio Spurs swingman Stephen Jackson has been fined by the NBA and his team $25,000 for issuing a hostile tweet towards Oklahoma City Thunder big man Serge Ibaka.
Jackson actually deleted the tweet and apologized, but the Spurs and the league still saw fit to issue a sanction.
"The recent public comments made by Stephen Jackson are absolutely unacceptable, can not be tolerated and do not reflect the standards held by the San Antonio Spurs," said Spurs General Manager RC Buford in a statement.
Last Friday (Saturday, PHL time), Jackson issued a tweet in the wake of Ibaka and LA Lakers forward Metta World Peace getting into an altercation during their game, saying "Somebody tel serg Abaka. He aint bout dis life. Next time he run up on me im goin in his mouth. That’s a promise. He doin 2 much."
Jackson later deleted the tweet and sent out an apology, saying, "I apologize to @sergeibaka, the NBA, and to all my fans for the comments I made. It was unprofessional and childish. I'm not a thug, just a man who speaks his mind. It was not appropriate. I do apologize. Only a man can admit when he's wrong."
Jackson and World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest, were teammates before with the Indiana Pacers, and were involved in the infamous "Malice in the Palace" incident that saw Pacers players attack fans in the stands. - AMD, GMA News
