Ex-PBA import Jamelle Cornley's court hearing set for April 23

Former Philippine Basketball Association import Jamelle Cornley will face a Quezon City court at 8:30 a.m., April 23, over charges of direct assault and, alarm and scandal lodged against him. Cornley's case was raffled off on Thursday to the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 31, under Judge Maria Gilda Pangilinan, radio dzBB's Rowena Salvacion reported. The charges against Cornley stem from his allegedly going amok at the KTV bar of a hotel last March 27. The import, who powered the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to the PBA Governor's Cup title last year, was upset because he had lost his wallet and $1,400 to three women he picked up earlier in the day. When a police team that responded to the ruckus tried to pacify him, Cornley supposedly knocked over  one of the police officers. And after he was taken to the QCPD Station 10, he then refused to heed police officials' orders, leading to his arrest. He had spent Holy Week behind bars. Quezon City Police Department Station 10 head Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr. said the QCPD is not withdrawing its charges even if Cornley were to apologize. Meanwhile, the officer whom Cornley allegedly assaulted, PO2 Anselmo Lazatin, continues to recover. He underwent a CT scan as he was still feeling back pains. — DVM/AMD, GMA News
