PBA: Urbiztondo reportedly dealt to Ginebra before the quarterfinals

(Updated 6:14pm) Barangay Ginebra San Miguel gets a big shot in the arm, with the reported acquisition of Barako Bull Energy Cola guard Josh Urbiztondo, right before the 2013 Commissioner's Cup playoffs begin.

Details of the trade have not yet been confirmed by the league office, nor has the deal been already approved, but Urbiztondo has already tweeted his good-byes to Barako via Twitter, and said in a separate message that "it's time to exert all my focus and energy to Ginebra!"

The Barako Bull Energy Cola team later thanked Urbiztondo for his performance with the team, and welcomed forward Keith Jensen to their fold.

Urbiztondo, acquired by Barako Bull prior to the start of the 2012-13 Philippine Cup, has put up 12.71 points, 4.14 rebounds and 5.57 assists in 14 Commissioner's Cup games with his old team.

Though he is best-known for playing the point guard position, Urbiztondo's ability to hit the three-ball (36.21 percent from beyond the arc this conference) could see him play alongside established floor general LA Tenorio, while Barangay Ginebra waits for Mark Caguioa to return from injury.

Ginebra governor Robert Non said as much, telling GMA News Online, "Siyempre nasa coach naman kung paano niya gagamitin si Josh [Urbiztondo]. Pero kulang talaga kami sa shooting guard, kaya kung ako ang tatanungin mo, palagay ko puwedeng maglaro as shooting guard si Josh."

The rookie Jensen meanwhile has seen limited minutes under Ginebra head coach Alfrancis Chua, appearing in just nine games for an average of 4.44 minutes. The eighth overall selection in 2012 normed 5.08 points, 2.33 rebounds and 0.50 assists in the All-Filipino conference.

With a 5-9 record, Barako Bull did not qualify for the postseason, but Ginebra did make it through, and could be either the seventh or sixth seed, depending on the outcome of the on-going Rain or Shine Elasto Painters versus Meralco Bolts game. - AMD, GMA News
