Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal reports that Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott has been fired, shortly after the end of the regular season. The report was later confirmed by the Cavs themselves. Citing an unnamed source, Lloyd wrote that the team's owner, Dan Gilbert, was "unhappy with the Cavs' lack of defensive improvements over the past three years" and that Gilbert was "the driving force behind the firing." The organization later released a statement on their website in which general manager Chris Grant said, “I believe we needed to make this change [the firing] in order to get to a better position to achieve our goals." The Cavs wrapped up the regular season with a 105-98 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats, giving them a 24-58 record, third-worst in the league. All in all, in the three years under Scott, the Cavs have won just 64 games and have finished in the bottom of the Central Division during that span. This is Scott's third stint as an NBA head coach. He was previously at the helm of the New Jersey Nets and the New Orleans Hornets. While this is the first official firing of the NBA offseason, earlier in the week, Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Philadelphia 76ers mentor Doug Collins had opted not to return to the sidelines for the 2013-14 season - AMD, GMA News
