NBA: Toronto Raptors targeting Denver GM Masai Ujiri - reports

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE), owners of the NBA's Toronto Raptors, will reportedly re-assign current general manager Bryan Colangelo to a corporate position, and are eying reigning Executive of the Year Masai Ujiri to be his replacement, multiple reports said on Monday (Tuesday, PHL time).

However, Colangelo is still set to represent the team on Tuesday (Wednesday, PHL time) at the NBA Draft Lottery.

The Toronto Star's Doug Smith reported that "Colangelo's future has been cloudy since the arrival of new MLSE chief executive officer Tim Leiweke; the Raptors held an option on a final contract year for Colangelo, and Leiweke seemed lukewarm from the start about picking it up."

Colangelo had joined the franchise in 2006. Following a series of trades, the Raptors made it to the top of the Atlantic division during the 2006-07 season with a 47-35 record, the first time the squad won a division title. Though they wound up losing to the New Jersey Nets in six games in the first round, Colangelo's work got him the Executive of the Year award.

Since then though, the team has failed to get a record better than .500, returning to the playoffs just once since the 06-07 season.

Ujiri, currently general manager of the Denver Nuggets, put together a team lacking in star power this season, but nonetheless made it to the third seed in the Western Conference with a franchise-record 57 wins, before bowing out in the first round to the Golden State Warriors.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports that MLSE is "preparing [a] major financial offer for Ujiri."
