NBA: Mavericks trade Calathes draft rights to Grizzlies

The Dallas Mavericks traded the draft rights to guard Nick Calathes to the Memphis Grizzlies for a 2016 second round draft pick, Monday (Tuesday, PHL time).

Both teams announced the trade.

Calathes was the 45th pick in the 2009 draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. His draft rights were then traded to the Mavericks for a 2010 second round draft pick.

Calathes, who has dual citizenship in Greece and the U.S., averaged 17.8 points and 6.4 assists per game at Florida in the 2008-09 season.

The 24-year-old has spent the past four seasons playing professionally in Europe. Last season, he averaged 12.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists on 54.7 percent shooting in 14 games for Lokomotiv Kuban of the Russian Professional Basketball League and 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists on 55.5 percent shooting over 30 games in the VTB United League.

He played his first three pro seasons in Greece for Panathinaikos Athens. - Reuters
