NBA: Grizzlies trade sophomore Tony Wroten to 76ers

The Memphis Grizzlies have traded second-year guard Tony Wroten to the Philadelphia 76ers for a future second-round pick, Adrian Wojnarwoski of Yahoo Sports first reported, Thursday (Friday, PHL time).

The 6'6" Wroten was the 25th overall pick of the Grizzlies in the 2012 draft. He split his time with the D-League's Reno Bighorns, and saw action in 35 games with his NBA parent team, averaging 2.6 points, 0.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in just under eight minutes.

Wroten was considered expendable after the team traded for rights to guard Nick Calathes from the Dallas Mavericks earlier in the preseason.

Wroten projects to challenge rookie Michael Carter-Williams for the starting point guard job in Philadelphia. The 76ers on draft day traded away All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday for the rights to Nerlens Noel and the New Orleans Pelicans' first-round draft pick in 2014. - AMD, GMA News
