We're talking about retirement?
David Aldridge of NBA.com reports that Allen Iverson is set to officially retire from the NBA on October 30 (October 31, PHL time), the scheduled home opener of the Philadelphia 76ers, the team that drafted him, when they'll go up against the defending champions Miami Heat, according to league sources.
In addition, Aldrige writes that "the organization may be discussing some kind of post-playing position for Iverson" though it won't be a coaching position.
Last month, rumors sprouted that Iverson was set to end his basketball career but no official paperwork had been filed.
"The Answer" was the first overall pick in the 1996 draft, was named Rookie of the Year that season, and earned MVP honors in 2001. He was an 11-time NBA All-Star, a three-time NBA First Team member, and a four-time NBA scoring champion.
He has career numbers of 26.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.2 assists, with his 24,368 total points scored good for 24th on the all-time scoring list.
Oftentimes a controversial figure, Iverson also had stints with the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and the Memphis Grizzlies, before returning to Philadelphia. He then played overseas, but never managed to make it back to the NBA. - AMD, GMA News
