NBA: Danny Granger officially signs with the Clippers

Former All-Star forward Danny Granger signed with the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday (Saturday, PHL time) after clearing waivers, the team announced.

The San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Miami Heatand Dallas Mavericks all showed interest in Granger, but he chose the Clippers because they offered him the best chance to play meaningful minutes for a contender.

Granger, 30, hopes to make his Clippers debut Saturday (Sunday, PHL time) against the New Orleans Pelicans.

He was officially waived by the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday (Thursday, PHL time) after agreeing to a buyout of his contract. The 76ers had acquired him from the Indiana Pacers just before the trade deadline in exchange for Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen.

"It's still kind of surreal honestly," Granger said Friday afternoon (Saturday, PL time), according to the Clippers' website. "I've been in Indiana my whole career. I've always seen 'Granger 33' with Pacers on top of it. So, it's going to be a change, but I'll be happy.

"I think I bring another dynamic. I'm a bigger small forward. I can play the 4 [power forward spot] as well. And I can shoot the ball and when you add that to the type of offense that we have: up-tempo, shoot a lot of threes, go out and space the court. That's the kind of offense that I think I would thrive in."

Granger played in 29 games with the Pacers this season after being hampered by knee and calf injuries. He averaged 8.3 points in 22 minutes, but his career average is 17.6 points a game. He will be a free agent after the season.

Granger missed all but five games in the 2012-13 season due to knee tendinitis. - Reuters
