University of Kentucky head coach John Calipari could be coaching his swan song in Monday's (Tuesday, PHL time) NCAA final against the University of Connecticut, as one report has him becoming the next head coach of the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.

Sports broadcaster, former NBA player and Kentucky alum Rex Chapman tweeted out Monday (Tuesday, PHL time) that "win or lose," Calipari will "coach Mamba's [Kobe Bryant's] Lakers," adding that it was a "#DoneDeal."

Calipari is in his fifth season with the Kentucky Wildcats. They've made it to the NCAA March Madness tournament four out of five times, and have taken home the championship once, in 2011.

This wouldn't be Calipari's first time in the NBA. He had a three-season stint with the New Jersey Nets, taking them to the playoffs once, during the 1997-98 season. He was fired the next year after a woeful 3-17 start.

The 55-year-old former collegiate point guard also had a stint as head coach of the Dominican Republic national basketball team.

Current Lakers head coach Mike D'Antoni has struggled in LA. After taking on the team mid-season in 2012-13, the former Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks mentor lost in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

This season has been much worse. The franchise failed to keep free agent Dwight Howard in the offseason. Coupled with injuries to almost everyone on his roster, the Lakers are lottery-bound, armed with a 25-52 record. - AMD, GMA News
