The Philippine national youth team has had a rough going in the FIBA World Under-17 Championship in Dubai, losing all four of its games to bow out in the round of 16.
The Batang Gilas campaign represents the country's return to the world basketball stage after the squad coached by Jamike Jarin won silver in the Asian championships last year.
But the coach of their senior counterparts, Chot Reyes of Gilas Pilipinas, expressed support for the youth team despite the beatings they have taken at the hands of Angola, Greece, United States, and France.
So proud of Coach Jamike & our Batang Gilas! Hold your heads up high. You represented the country well. #LabanPilipinasPUSO

Despite putting up gallant efforts, the youth team has gone undone because of their lack of size.
Batang Gilas, however, has gained admiration from their opponents for their grit on the court.
