The Philippine national youth team remained winless in the 2014 FIBA World Under-17 Championship after falling to Egypt, 92-67, on Friday in their classification round matchup.

Batang Gilas fell behind early, 32-19, in the first quarter, and never recovered against the taller Egyptian side.

It was the Philippines sixth straight defeat in the tournament.

Mike Nieto, who plays center for Batang Gilas despite standing just 6-foot-2, paced the team with 20 points.

Batang Gilas, which qualified for the world stage after winning silver in last year's FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship, is in danger of finishing last in the tournament.

A matchup against host United Arab Emirates on Saturday will determine which team will take 15th in the 16-nation tournament. — JST, GMA News
