'May laban pa tayo': Malacañang asks Pinoys to keep the faith in Gilas Pilipinas

 

"May laban pa tayo."

 

This was Malacañang’s message on Tuesday as it called on Filipinos to continue rallying behind Gilas Pilipinas despite three straight losses in the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

 

“Ito po ang panawagan natin: Patuloy nating suportahan ang kampanya ng koponang Gilas Pilipinas sa 2014 FIBA World Cup Basketball Championship,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said at a media briefing.

 

He also commended Gilas members for putting up good fights against their taller opponents.

 

“Tunay na kahanga-hanga ang ipinapakitang husay at tapang ng mga manlalarong Pilipino bagamat kalaban nila ay higit na malaki at matangkad na mga manlalaro,” Coloma said.

 

Gilas Pilipinas has so far lost to three teams — Croatia, Greece, and Argentina — in the preliminary round of the international basketball tournament being held in Seville, Spain.

 

The Philippine national team needs to defeat its next two opponents, Puerto Rico and Senegal, to have a chance to advance to the next round of the competition. — JST, GMA News/Photo courtesy of FIBA.com
