Despite scoring a career-high 36 points, including a three-pointer from the left corner that drew cheers from the audience in the fourth quarter, against Kia on Wednesday, June Mar Fajardo couldn't escape the good-natured ribbing from his San Miguel Beer teammates.

"Sabi nga nila ang sama nga raw ng laro ko e, six turnovers daw," the reigning Most Valuable Player told reporters after the match.

Asked about the three-pointer he uncharacteristically shot during garbage time, the 6-foot-11 center said it was simply luck.

"Tsamba lang. Kung nagmintis 'yun papagalitan ako ni Coach (Leo Austria) nun. Buti pumasok," he said.

The ball found nothing but net, as if it was fired by a seasoned shooting guard. That led reporters to ask whether Fajardo had perhaps been working on his outside shot.

"Hindi, wala nang mag-re-rebound sa loob e," he said. "Tira-tira lang."

In addition to scoring, Fajardo also grabbed 17 rebounds in 40 minutes, his sixth straight game of playing extended minutes on the court.

Despite his solid solo performance, Fajardo still emphasized team play for San Miguel to continue winning.

"Hindi naman puwede na isang tao lang gagawa, dalawa," he said. "Sana next game mag-step up din 'yung iba." — JST, GMA News
