Wayne Chism proved why he was Rain or Shine;s first choice for its import on Friday, returning with a bang in the Commissioner's Cup as he led the Elasto Painters to a 99-89 victory over Alaska.
Chism, who recently became available after a stint in Israel, replaced Rick Jackson as the Elasto Painters' reinforcement as the conference reached its halfway mark.
He immediately made his presence felt against the Aces, posting a stellar performance of 24 points, 22 rebounds, and four assists for Rain or Shine.
"We weren't mistaken bringing him back," coach Yeng Guiao said of his import. "It's a good debut for Wayne coming in."
Chism carried Rain or Shine to the semifinals of the Commissioners' Cup last season, and he is seeking to go deeper in the playoffs now that he's back in action in the league.
With a victory in his first game, the import had the best start he could hope for.
"It feels good especially with the confidence the coach has in me in the last conference that I was here, he said. "Hopefully, it carries over to this conference and help the team get back to where the team was playing with me before."
Rain or Shine is in a good position in the standings with a 4-2 card to tie for third with defending champions Purefoods, but the journey to the playoffs is still a long one with five more games left to play.
"It's gonna be a hard course to conquer but I'm up for the challenge and it's gonna be a long fight," Chism said. —JST, GMA News
