PBA: Rey Guevarra soars to second straight Slam Dunk title
By Marisse Panaligan
This time, defending co-champion Rey Guevarra made sure he took the Slam Dunk crown for himself as he wowed the Puerto Princesa City crowd in the PBA-All Star weekend.
The Meralco Bolts forward finished with a between-the-legs jam to score perfect 10s in the score cards of the five judges, besting Barangay Ginebra's Japeth Aguilar in the Slam Dunk contest.
"Kinakabahan ako kanina e," said Guevarra who also won P30,000.00 cash prize. "Hindi kasi ako nakapagpractice e, galing ako ng injury. One week pa lang akong nagte-training."
Guevarra was supposed to do the dunk in the preliminaries, but decided against it which saved the best for last.
Aguilar, meanwhile, performed a lane up for his final slam, taking off around the free throw line to score 46 points in their tie-breaker.
In the first round, defending co-champion Justin Melton failed to give a decent slam for his opening dunk which gave him just 25 points. The Purefoods guard did not advance to the finals to defend the title he shared with Guevarra last year.
Other contestants were Barako Bull's JC Intal and Talk 'n Text rookie Matt Ganuelas-Rosser. —Marisse Panaligan/JST, GMA News
