NBA: Vintage Duncan drops 28 points as Spurs steal Game 2 in LA
By RENEE FOPALAN, GMA News
Tim Duncan had 28 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 111-107 overtime win against the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 2 of their first round playoffs series at the Staples Center.
The home team played catch up against the defending champions in overtime, as Danny Green, Patty Mills and Tim Duncan conspired to counter Blake Griffin's production, 101-98. J.J. Redick tied the game with a trey halfway through the extra period, but another Duncan jumper and a Mills layup had the Clippers calling for time.
The Spurs looked like they were going to cruise to a win after a Griffin turnover led to a Kawhi Leonard layup, but Chris Paul made a three with 44 ticks left to trim the deficit, 107-104. The two teams traded misses, as Paul was forced to foul Mills with 11 seconds remaining. Mills made both, but Redick came to the rescue by hitting one from deep at the other end. Dahntay Jones fouled Mills anew to stop the clock, and the pointguard made both to seal the deal.
Kawhi Leonard also had an impressive outing, hitting 23 points with nine rebounds. Tony Parker had no conversions from the field except for a split on the line for one point in 30 minutes, but Australian backup Patty Mills delivered 18 points, along with four crucial freethrows in the final 11 seconds. Boris Diaw came off the bench with 12 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
The Clippers were carried by their big men, with Blake Griffin tallying 29 points and 11 boards. DeAndre Jordan added 20 points, while Chris Paul had 21 markers, eight boards and seven assists. J.J. Redick had 16 points. - GMA News
