By RENEE FOPALAN, GMA News
The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters recovered from a slow start, beating the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters, 88-73, on Saturday at the USLS Gym in Bacolod City.
Wendell McKines led the charge for Rain or Shine with 28 points and 16 rebounds, while Jeff Chan scored 10 with nine boards and four assists. Raymond Almazan was also efficient, hitting 10 points in 20 minutes.
Rain or Shine's bench also made some key contributions, with Jericho Cruz leading the way hitting nine points with eight boards and four assists. Beau Belga and JR Quinahan tallied six markers each while combining for nine boards.
The Texters took command of the game in the opening period, imposing a nine point lead while limiting the Elasto Painters to just 13 points.
TNT's lead ballooned to 15 early in the second, 30-15, before Rain or Shine unleashed a 14-2 run to trim the lead to three after a Wendell McKines split from the line with four and a half minutes remaining. The Texters countered with three straight triples before Chris Tiu and McKines made it a seven-point spread heading into the half, 43-36.
The third quarter was Rain or Shine's, as the Elasto Painters obliterated an 11-point deficit to tie the game at 55-all off a Jeff Chan split. In the final minute of the period, RoS leaned on the efforts of Beau Belga and JR Quinahan to establish a three-point lead heading into the final frame, 62-59.
It looked like it was going to be a tight game in the fourth, with Willie Miller connecting to cut the lead to one, 62-61, but it was all Rain or Shine in the final stretch, as the Elasto Painters outscored their foes 26-12 in the last 10 minutes. - GMA News
