PBA: Blakely, Yap combine for 50 as Star blows out Barako

Marqus Blakely had 33 points, while James Yap added 17 as the Star Hotshots defeated the struggling Barako Bull Energy, 117-89, on Sunday.

"We've assured ourselves of the top eight with this win tonight," said Star mentor Tim Cone. "It was a good all around performance tonight. Everybody contributed. Hopefully, this could carry over to the Blackwater game and the playoffs."

Cone also praised his franchise player James Yap:

"James has been shooting really well in practices, he's been killin in practices."

Star's one-two punch also combined for 16 rebounds, and five assists, while Alex Mallari strung 11 points. The Hotshots also got a lot from the bench, with PJ Simon hitting 15 in just 11 minutes. Allein Maliksi also chipped in 10 in 13 minutes.

The Hotshots surprised Barako with a 34-point start in the first, while allowing just 20. Tim Cone's squad didn't let up in the second, outscoring Barako 24-17 for a 21-point lead at the half, 58-37. Barako never recovered, as Star was able to manage the lead and even add on to it in the third, 86-62. Star led by as much as 34 points in the fourth to cruise to victory.

Liam McMorrow had 23 points and 12 boards for Barako, but the import also accounted for five turnovers. JC Intal was the only other starter in double figures with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, but he also tallied six turnovers. Nico Salva and Dylan Ababou added 11 each. - GMA News
