Despite GlobalPort bowing out of the playoffs with their loss against Star Hotshots on Sunday, it seems that it won't be the last time Palestinian import Omar Krayem will see action against Filipino players.

Gilas Pilipinas and Palestine are both placed in Group B in the FIBA Asia Championship draw, which means that their roads are sure to cross in the first round of the tournament.

And Krayem, one of the main point guards of Palestine, is expected to suit up for their national team which qualified for the FIBA Asia for the first time this year.

"It's a very high possibility. I need to go home and get some downtime," said the guard, who has been playing in Sweden, Mexico, and the Philippines since August. "I'm about to get some rest, talk to the national team and see what the plan is."

Krayem is the leading Asian import in the PBA records with 25.7 statistical points behind an average of 14.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and three assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

He is also considered by Grand Slam coaches Norman Black and Tim Cone as the best Asian import among the six hired by teams in the Governors' Cup, especially after helping the Batang Pier clinch the fourth seed in the playoffs.

"I'm just looking forward to competing against everybody we're going to play against, especially the Philippines since I played here and it's a pleasure and an honor," he said.

"Philippine basketball is tough, physical and got some great players so I'm excited to compete against them and show my real stuff," he added. —JST, GMA News
