What Arwind Santos thinks of getting posterized by Chris Newsome

Arwind Santos gave a rude PBA welcome to Chris Newsome, registering a huge block on the rookie in the first half of the match between San Miguel Beer and Meralco Bolts on Wednesday night.

What the former league Most Valuable Player had not foreseen, however, was the athletic guard taking the play to heart and seeking his payback within the game.

Newsome brought the house down in the third quarter as he posterized the veteran forward with a nasty one-handed dunk during a fastbreak play.

"Hindi ko din akalain na lilipad din nang ganun 'yun e," Santos told reporters after the game. "Kasi 'yung talon ko kanina challenge lang na parang hilaw talaga dahil kala ko layup lang."

"Biglang lumilipad din pala 'yung bata," he added.

The San Miguel Beer captain said he was not able to follow Newsome's collegiate career in the UAAP, hence his surprise at the wingman's leaping ability and athleticism.

But despite getting embarrassed by a newbie, Santos took the play in stride and did not aim to get back at Newsome. He carried on with his game like usual to finish 16 points and 10 rebounds.

"Hindi 'yun sa pagbawi, kailangan manalo kami. 'Yun lang naman ang bottomline," he said.

Newsome, who was picked fourth overall in the rookie draft by his former Ateneo coach Norman Black, impressed in his debut with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. --JST, GMA News
