One final heartbreak for 'King Tiger' Kevin Ferrer

In his final UAAP game for University of Santo Tomas, Kevin Ferrer battled through a lockdown defense that limited him to only six points.

The King Tiger, who torched Far Eastern University in Game Two with six triples for 29 points in Game Two, only had seven attempts the entire Game Three.

Without his shooting, UST handed the 67-62 victory and the crown to FEU on Wednesday afternoon.

Ferrer became emotional as the team huddled together the final time after the buzzer, but after receiving a hero's welcome by the UST community outisde Mall of Asia Arena, he said he has no regrets despite falling short of winning the title.

"Wala naman, basta ginawa ko 'yung best ko, pinaglaban ko 'yung UST. Kung ano man ang result, OK na ako dun," said the forward, who had five rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 39 minutes.

Ferrer finished his UAAP career without a single championship to his name despite being one of the most dominant stars in the league. This year was his last chance to deliver a title for UST, but ended up as another heartbreak.

Prior to this season, he experienced the Tigers' finals losses against Ateneo and La Salle in Season 75 and Season 76. Last year, UST did not make the Final Four as Ferrer injured his left hand midway into the season.

"Kung ano talaga 'yung destiny namin, OK na kami dun. Wala naman kaming question kay God. Ayun talaga yung plan ni God para sa amin," he said about his UAAP career.

Head coach Bong Dela Cruz paid tribute to his best player in the post-game press conference, saying that even as he had a difficult time scoring, he contributed to the team in terms of rebounding and defense.

"Kevin Ferrer is my MVP," the coach said. "Hindi naman natin expected na mauulit niya 'yung ginawa niya last game, pero as a leader, he led the team."

"Ni-lead niya talaga 'tong team na 'to sa finals. Siya talaga 'yung dahilan," he added. —JST, GMA News
