Paul Lee saved the day anew for Rain or Shine after hitting the game-winning buzzer beater off a miss by Beau Belga in the final possession of their finals Game Two against Alaska on Sunday.

Yeng Guiao, however, later revealed that his wards did not exactly follow the play he drew up with the game tied and with 27 seconds left on the clock.

The coach said that the play was for Jericho Cruz to go left or right using the screens set up by their two bigs, with shooters Jeff Chan and Paul Lee waiting for the pass in the corner.

As the play developed, big man Beau Belga found himself occupying the left corner, leaving Lee to handle the ball and make the pass to him.

"Inagaw ni Beau 'yung isang corner e. Hindi naman siya dapat ang shooter doon, feeling shooter siya, inagaw nya," Guiao said about Belga.

The sweet-shooting forward, who scored 14 points for the Elasto Painters, missed the go-ahead trey but luckily left enough time for Lee to get the rebound and make the last-gasp jumper.

"It wasn't the play but it turned out the winning play for us," the coach said.

Belga, for his part, said he only took the shot because the play was already broken and the ball ended up in his hands.

"Sa amin naman, kahit hindi para sayo kapag sa 'yo bumagsak 'yung bola kailangan mo itira," he said.

"Accidentally sa akin napasa ni Paul so sabi ko sa sarili ko akin 'to, ako titira. Good thing napunta kay Paul and siya pa rin ang tumapos so para sa kanya pa rin," he added.

Lee, meanwhile, turned out to be in the right place at the right time as he found himself all alone for the rebound and the shot.

"Nakita ko malakas ['yung tira] e. Nagbaka-sakali na lang ako na mapunta dito sa kabila, ayun tumama sa ring, napunta 'yung bola dito," said the guard, who finished with 17 points.

"Pagkuha ko, nakita ko na two seconds pa ang oras e, so ayun, nag-focus lang ako sa tira ko." — APG, GMA News
