Emotions were running high for Calvin Abueva both at the beginning and towards the end of Game Four between Alaska and Rain or Shine in the Commissioner's Cup finals on Friday night.

The Beast earned his first Best Player of the Conference (BPC) honors before tip-off, his first major individual award since bagging the Rookie of the Year in 2013.

As Abueva marched to center court with his eldest son Calvin James to receive his BPC plaque, he admitted that he had gone emotional with the achievement.

"Talagang pagbanggit ng pangalan ko, talagang naluha ako," he said.

But that was the only line reporters could squeeze out of him about winning the BPC award, as Abueva was quick to return his focus to the Aces' hopes to win a championship.

"Syempre di ko [iniisip] 'yung nakuha ko. Mas [iniisip] ko 'yung panalo ngayon," said the Alaska forward, who willed the team to a 111-99 victory to extend the series and fight another day.

Abueva finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in 27 minutes for the Aces, but his emotions got to him again in crunch time after getting ejected in the  game.

He continuously complained about a foul called against him as he went for the trap against Maverick Ahanmisi, prompting officials to slap him with his second technical foul.

Abueva waved to the crowd before disappearing to the Alaska locker room.

"Ganun talaga e, 'yun ang nangyari. Pero at least naman naman bago ako mawala, lamang kami dun sa oras na 'yun," he said.

But with the Aces still down 3-1 in the series, The Beast said the team still has to improve their defense in order to keep their hopes for a miracle comeback alive.

"Hindi naman basta-basta makukuha agad natin 'yung four straight win hanggat hindi tayo nahihirapan e," he said. Di naman susuko basta-basta 'yung mga 'yan e." — APG, GMA News
