Santos, Fajardo combine for 50 as Beermen down GlobalPort
Arwind Santos and June Mar Fajardo combined for 50 points and 25 rebounds to lift the San Miguel Beermen past the GlobalPort Batang Pier on Saturday at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Up just two after a Stanley Pringle make at the two-minute mark, the Beermen benefited from a Marcio Lassiter split and back-to-back baskets from Santos to stretch the lead to seven with 55 ticks to go.
Terrence Romeo drove for a quick hit, forcing San Miguel to call for time, as offensive boards from Chris Ross and Santos gave San Miguel possession with just 21 seconds remaining.
GlobalPort was then forced to foul, and Santos canned two charities to bump the lead back to seven anew. Romeo didn't waste time by hitting a triple, 104-100, as the Batang Pier inserted Von Pessumal for extra firepower leading into the final 11 seconds.
Back-to-back splits from Santos and Fajardo put the game away giving San Miguel the victory.
Santos finished the game with 31 points and 10 rebounds, while Fajardo tallied 19 markers with 15 boards. Marcio Lassiter added 22 points as a starter, while Brian Heruela rounded up the starters in double figures with 10 markers.
Pringle fired 21 points with seven boards for the Batang Pier, while Romeo managed to string 16 points off a 4 of 14 shooting clip. He also added nine assists with three boards.
Nino Canaleta posted 14 points, while Mike Cortez and Aaron Aban combined for 21 points off the bench. JR Quinahan also packed the stats sheet with nine points, 11 boards, and seven assists. —ALG, GMA News
