Tenorio, Thompson tow Ginebra past San Miguel

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel prevented a monumental meltdown on Sunday, hanging on to beat the San Miguel Beermen, 107-99, at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.

The Beermen struggled to keep in step in the opening period, allowing 31 points while scoring just 15. They struggled to chip away at the lead for most of the game, heading into the fourth down 80-65.

Ginebra saw their 20-point lead reduced to just three after an Alex Cabagnot triple with 2:50 left in the game, but Justin Brownlee shored up the fort, leading a 14-9 blast in the last stretch to tow his team to victory.

Justin Brownlee finished the game with 34 points and 12 boards, while LA Tenorio tallied 20 points, eight assists, and six boards. Scottie Thompson had 18 markers and 11 boards, while Joe Devance finished the game with 16.

Charles Rhodes paced San Miguel with 26 points and eight boards and four steals but with nine turnovers, while Alex Cabagnot chipped in 20 points and seven boards. Arwind Santos came off the bench for 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Marcio Lassiter and June Mar Fajardo combined for 23 with a 9 of 27 shooting clip. — DVM, GMA News
