Devance delivers as Ginebra stymies Star in OT
Joe Devance had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists to lead Barangay Ginebra San Miguel to a 105-101 victory over the Star Hotshots during Sunday's 2017 PBA Governors' Cup match.
Back to back splits from Justin Brownlee and Joe Devance put Ginebra ahead by three with two seconds left in the fourth, but Malcolm Hill earned a trip to the line with 0.6 remaining after being fouled from beyond the arc. Star's import shook off the rowdy crowd, calmly sinking three straight charities to send the game into extra time.
In overtime, the Hotshots were shut down in the final 2:45, as Ginebra earned another victory to claim the top spot in the standings at 6-1.
Justin Brownlee had 33 points for the Gin Kings, while Greg Slaughter added 17. The two also had 10 boards each, while LA Tenorio and Japeth Aguilar chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Star's starters carried most of the load, while Hill scoring 28 points with 12 boards. Paul Lee had 22, while Mark Barroca, Aldrech Ramos, and Rafi Reavis combined for 35. The Hotshots' bench only accounted for 16 points, with Ian Sangalang leading the way with 10.
With the loss, Star is now tied with Rain or Shine at 4-2, while Meralco sits in second place at 5-1. — DVM, GMA News
