Nets guard Lin has surgery on injured knee

NEW YORK, United States - Brooklyn Nets point guard Jeremy Lin had surgery to repair a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee, the NBA team said Friday.

The Nets, who said Thursday that they expected Lin to miss the rest of the 2017-18 NBA season, said he is expected to make a full recovery.

Lin was hurt on a drive to the basket during the fourth quarter of Brooklyn's 140-131 loss to the Indiana Pacers in their season opener.

After slumping to the court, he was able to limp back to the locker room.

The 29-year-old posted a photo with Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson on his Twitter account on Friday, showing the player's right knee bandaged and in a brace.

"THANKS for all the love and support!! Blown away at everyones kindness. My hats too swaggy lol," Lin tweeted.

Lin, the first American of Chinese or Taiwanese ancestry to play in the NBA, is in the second season of a three-year contract worth $36 million. — Agence France-Presse
