Cone unsatisfied as Ginebra struggled to overcome GlobalPort

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel had to rely on their end game heroics in defeating the Global Port Batang Pier, 104-97, at the Araneta Coliseum.

Down nine heading into the final 12 minutes of the game, the Kings uncorked a 36-20 run in the fourth period to earn the victory.

Head coach Tim Cone, however, was not pleased with his team’s performance:

“You just don’t get away with those things over the long haul. Suddenly you’re in a bad position for the playoffs and you don’t make a run for the finals. So this is something we need to get better at. We kind of stole this one tonight. I'm okay about the win, but I'm not happy with the way we played.”

LA Tenorio was the hero for Ginebra once again, this time tallying one point with seven assists and five boards. Japeth Aguilar paced the team in points with 21, while Greg Slaughter added 18. Former UST standouts Jervy Cruz and Aljon Mariano also provided the extra lift off the bench with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Sean Anthony and Stanley Pringle carried the Batang Pier with a combined 52 points, 17 boards, and 13 assists, while Kelly Nabong and rookie Julian Sargent scored 12 apiece as starters. — LA, GMA News
