PBA: Rain or Shine survives Magnolia in OT
The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters relied on the steady shooting of Chris Tiu in the endgame to defeat the Magnolia Hotshots, 99-96 in overtime in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Reggie Johnson led Rain or Shine with 23 points, while Raymond Almazan and Gabe Norwood tallied 19 and 12 points, respectively, as starters. Tiu led the bench with 10 markers, while Beau Belga hit seven.
Tiu drained four straight pressure-packed freethrows in the final 16 seconds of the game to stave off the Hotshots.
Down a point, Curtis Kelly drove down the middle of the shaded area before bouncing the ball off his leg to give Rain or Shine possession. Jio Jalalon was then forced to foul Tiu, who knocked down two from the stripe.
Magnolia turned to Kelly anew, and the import attacked for a quick basket. Rome Dela Rosa stoped the clock with another foul on Tiu, but the Rain or Shine shooted secured both. A late triple from Kelly failed to fall, giving the Elasto Painters the victory.
Curtis Kelly and Rome Dela Rosa each scored 19 points, as Jio Jalalon added 13. Paul Lee was limited to 10 points off a 3 of 13 shooting clip. — LA, GMA News
