Report: Mavs talking with Clippers about DeAndre Jordan
In July 2015, DeAndre Jordan agreed to a four-year, $80 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
Less than a week later, he reneged and signed a four-year, $88 million contract to stay with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Now he might finally be moving to the Metroplex.
The New York Times' Mark Stein reported Wednesday that the Mavericks are attempting to acquire the 29-year-old center in a trade with the Clippers.
Jordan's expiring contract includes a $24.1 million player option that he must pick up by Friday at 11:59 p.m. ET. Should he opt out, Dallas could attempt to sign him when free agency begins Sunday. If Jordan picks up the option, the $18.7 million salary of Mavericks swingman Wesley Matthews likely would be the key to any offer to the Clippers, according to Stein.
Stein also reported that the Clippers gave Jordan and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, the OK to seek out a trade.
The Jordan report comes a day after the Clippers gave themselves another option at the center position, acquiring Marcin Gortat from the Washington Wizards in exchange for guard Austin Rivers.
Jordan averaged 12.0 points, 15.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.9 blocked shots in 77 games last season, all starts.
In 10 NBA seasons, all with the Clippers, he has career averages of 9.4 points, 10.7 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.7 blocks.
Matthews, 31, put up 12.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in 63 contests last season. In a career that has included stints with the Utah Jazz and the Portland Trail Blazers in addition to the Mavericks, Matthews is averaging 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. — Field Level Media/Reuters
