PBA: Gin Kings bury Beermen to take Commissioner’s Cup crown


Barangay Ginebra San Miguel avoided a winner-take-all Game 7 by defeating the San Miguel Beermen, 93-77, to take the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup title in front of a 20-thousand strong crowd in the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Down by as many as 10 points in the second quarter, the Gin Kings outscored San Miguel, 58-39 in the second half to cruise to victory.

Justin Brownlee led the Gin Kings with 31 points, 19 rebounds, and seven assists, while Greg Slaughter tallied 13 with nine in a starting role. The backcourt of Scottie Thompson and LA Tenorio combined for 23 points, with Thompson tallying 13 rebounds and five assists.

The usually high-scoring Beermen were limited to 34 percent from the field, while allowing Ginebra to hit 43 percent. San Miguel was also limited to just 15 percent from deep, with Marcio Lassiter, Alex Cabagnot, and Chris Ross combining for 0 of 14 from long range.

Cabagnot finished the game with just six points off a 3 of 15 clip, while Ross and Lassiter went scoreless off 17 tries. Arwind Santos was also just limited to five markers after going 2 of 11 from the field.

June Mar Fajardo led the Beermen with 29 points and 15 rebounds, as Renaldo Balkman accounted for 24 markers and 14 boards.
