Playing in UAAP is a fulfillment of dreams, showcase of performance for some rookies

Almost halfway through the season, and it would be safe to say UAAP Season 81 is one roller coaster ride.

Basketball fans have seen almost everything: blowout games, buzzer beaters, exciting plays, and of course, stand-out players.

Among those stand-out players are rookies, who in their first few games have already proven their worth in their teams, and have shown a preview of what to expect from them in the next years.

Take for example, NU's Dave Ildefonso. After promising to be "a solid contributor" after just his first game, the UAAP Juniors' champ has been an integral part of the Bulldogs' system.

As of writing, the younger son of PBA legend Danny Ildefonso, has an average of 14 points and five rebounds per game.

Unfortunately, after winning their first game in the season, the Sampaloc-based squad has been on a five-game losing skid.

Another rookie making his presence felt in the league is UST's CJ Cansino. The UAAP Season 80 Juniors MVP averages 14.3 points and 9.4 rebounds, recording double-double performances from time to time. In their last two outings, Cansino recorded 17 points and 17 rebounds against UE, and 16 markers and 10 boards when they played UP.

"I'm just gonna do my best, mag-compete lang ako, ibigay ko buong pagkatao ko, maipanalo lang ang UST," Cansino said during UST's first win.

The España-based squad now holds three wins and four losses.

For some rookies like UP's Will Gozum and Ateneo's SJ Belangel, playing in the seniors' league is a fulfillment of their dreams.

Watch these four young players share their thoughts on the league and what to expect from them this season:
