Pringle goes to Ginebra for Sol Mercado, Kevin Ferrer, Jervy Cruz
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel has acquired North Port star Stanley Pringle in a four-player trade with NorthPort Batang Pier on Tuesday.
According to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) website, NorthPort traded Pringle in exchange forwards Jervy Cruz and Kevin Ferrer, and guardSol Mercado.
The trade has already been approved by the PBA Commissioner's Office.
Pringle, the top pick overall in the 2014 Draft, averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.6 steals in the 2019 Philippine Cup before he underwent surgery to remove bone spurs in his right ankle.
Since the surgery, the five-time PBA All-Star Pringle has been only able to suit up for two games for NorthPort in the ongoing eliminations of PBA Commissioner's Cup.
Even before Pringle was traded, the Batang Pier has been doing well without him with a 5-1 win-loss card, good for second place behind early leader TNT KaTropa which is atop the leader board at 6-1.
The trade will reunite Jervy Cruz and Kevin Ferrer with NorthPort coach Pido Jarencio who served as their head coach during their college days in UST.
Mercado appears to be the best performer among the three Ginebra players that NorthPort got based on statistics.
Mercado, a two-time PBA All-Star, averaged 5.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists for Ginebra five games this conference.
Ferrer, on the other hand, averaged 3.6 points and 2.2 rebounds. —Llanesca Panti/NB, GMA News
