Douthit wants SMB import McCullough as next Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player

What's next for Gilas Pilipinas?

After a disastrous FIBA World Cup campaign which saw the national team finish without a single win in five games, some thought a change in the country's naturalized player is in order.

Former Gilas naturalized center Marcus Douthit, in particular, wants San Miguel Beer import Chris McCullough to replace his successor Andray Blatche.

Douthit tweeted the idea in the middle of Gilas' campaign in China, which saw Blatche struggle to perform according to expectations.

McCullough, 24, seemed on board with the idea, retweeting Douthit's comment and replying to fan tweets encouraging him to wear the Gilas jersey.

Blatche, 33, was far from ideal condition at the World Cup and only averaged 15.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. He also committed 4.4 turnovers per game and shot a horrendous 28.1% from three.

McCullough, the 29th pick of the 2015 NBA Draft selected by the Brooklyn Nets, led SMB to the PBA Commissioner's Cup championship in August. — RSJ, GMA News
