San Miguel suspends Santos, Nabong and Tubid after tussle in practice

The San Miguel Beermen have indefinitely suspended Arwind Santos, Kelly Nabong and Ronald Tubid following a scuffle that broke out during practice last November 17.

The team announced the development on Wednesday, hours before the Beermen's crucial game against the TNT KaTropa on Wednesday evening at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

San Miguel currently sits at fifth place in the PBA standings behind a 6-4 win-loss card and are gunning for a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals.

The management of the Beermen said the conflict among their players "has been resolved and the incident occurred away from the public eye."

But it added that the organization "does not tolerate unsportsmanlike behavior," the reason for the suspension.

San Miguel did not say what caused the tussle. It also did not mention import Dez Wells, who was also reportedly involved in the incident.

"Basketball is a physical game where emotions can run high, but we believe that PBA players have to be held to a higher standard of professionalism and sportsmanship at all times," the statement read.

"It is for this reason that we’ve come to this decision, even if it impacts our bid for a second franchise grand slam. Our commitment now, moving forward, is that we will work doubly hard and play our very best, for our fans and for the organization." —Ma. Angelica Garcia/JST, GMA News
