Wright, Phoenix a win away from Finals stint with Game 3 victory over TNT


The Phoenix Fuelmasters is now a win away from their first Finals appearance after snatching Game 3 against TNT Tropang Giga, 92-89, in the PBA Philippine Cup semis on Sunday.

At the 3:03 mark of the fourth quarter, Matthew Wright swished from rainbow country, extending the lead of Fuelmasters, 88-81. TNT bursted a 6-0 run to trim the cushion, 88-87, with a 1:10 left to play. Wright came in clutch after making a fade away jump shot, 92-89, with 22 ticks left.

TNT tried to salvage the game, but RR Pogoy and Jason Castro missed their 3-point attempts, giving Phoenix the 2-1 lead.

Wright led the Fuelmasters with 25 markers on 5-of-11 shooting beyond the arc, while Calvin Abueva stuffed the stat sheet with 24 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals.

The Tropang Giga will aim to extend the series to an all or nothing Game 5 on Wednesday. — LA, GMA News
