Negotiations for Pacquiao fight 'intensifying,' reveals McGregor

Former two-division UFC world champion Conor McGregor has revealed that his camp is in the advanced stage of negotiations for a potential showdown with eight-division boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.

In an interview with The Mac Life, the Irish mixed martial arts superstar said that the fight is likely to happen this year but has no date and venue yet.

"I know the talks are intensifying for [a fight] this year. I am excited for a Manny Pacquiao bout and it looks like it will take place this year. What time this year, I am not sure," said McGregor.

The 32-year-old McGregor, who is 0-1 as a pro boxer, is scheduled to face former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier in a rematch in the main event of UFC 257 on January 24 at the Etihad Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

McGregor plans to hold a meeting with UFC president Dana White after his next bout as he expressed his intention to compete in boxing once more and become a world champion before he retires.

"We'll have to have some good discussions with Dana White and the UFC and see where it goes.  What's there what do we want," he said.

"I am open to it all, ready for it all. I will certainly attain a boxing world title before I call it a day and I would be excited to do that against Emmanuel Pacquiao." —MGP, GMA News
