SBP names Jack Animam as 'Women in Basketball' ambassador
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is tapping Jack Animam as its ambassador for FIBA's Women in Basketball program.
The SBP on Thursday said Animam, who recently won a championship with Shih Hsin University, will be given "a bigger platform to continue to be an example of what a Filipina basketball player could be."
“Aside from winning five straight championships in the UAAP, what really sets Jack apart was that she was always available when the country needed her services on the international stage may it be for 3x3 or five on five. We know how passionate she is about elevating Filipina basketball players by giving them a bigger stage and that’s why she’s perfect for the role," SBP president Al Panlilio said in a statement.
According to SBP, FIBA’s Women in Basketball program aims to develop elite players and coaches, and increase gender diversity and female fans in the sport. With her new role, Animam is expected to be a part of "the federation’s continuous investment in women’s basketball."
Animam, aside from being a five-time UAAP champion and a titleholder abroad, also bagged gold medals for the 5x5 and 3x3 basketball events in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. —Justin Kenneth Carandang/JMB, GMA News
