Dwight Ramos arrives in PH, will join Gilas Pilipinas soon

It’s only a matter of time before Gilas Pilipinas has its full arsenal at its disposal.

According to Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) special assistant to the president Ryan Gregorio, Dwight Ramos has recently arrived in the country and will soon join the nationals’ training at the Inspire Sports Academy pending his clearance from health and safety protocols.

With Ramos in the fold, Gilas is now only awaiting the arrival of Kai Sotto in their preparation for two tournaments next month, the final window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers and the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

“On Dwight, he arrived and is just clearing health and safety protocols,” Gregorio told GMA News Online on Wednesday.

“On Kai, we have no update yet.”

Ramos is a key piece in the Gilas puzzle.

The 6-foot-5 Filipino-American first saw action when the national squad competed in the first window back in January 2020 where he played alongside other young players in Dave Ildefonso, Kobe Paras, and brothers Juan and Javi Gomez de Liaño.

In the second window late last year, meanwhile, the Ateneo recruit was in full-swing, leading the country to a pair of victories against Thailand en route to a 3-0 win-loss slate for the Philippines in Group A.

Currently, Ramos has an average of 12.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.

“Dwight will bring us some size and stability in his position,” interim head coach Jong Uichico said in a separate interview. —JMB, GMA News
