Terrafirma to begin 5-on-5, 3x3 training in Batangas today
Terrafirma looks to integrate its 3x3 buildup when the teams starts full physical training today, May 20, at the Lyceum of the Philippines-Batangas Gym ahead of the 46th PBA this June.
Dyip head coach John Cardel confirmed that the squad left their hotel in Azure Urban Resort and Residences in Bicutan, Parañaque today at 8 am and will begin scrimmages at 11 am with the hopes to train both the 3x3 and 5-on-5 teams.
“We’ve been on a break for the longest time so this will really be a good start for us,” shared Cardel to GMA News Online.
“We’re very excited to begin scrimmages because of the long vacation. And our team is almost complete so nothing to worry about.”
Dyip eyes to improve its 1-10 win-loss finish in the 2020 Philippine Cup and according to Cardel, the arrival of Joshua Munzon, the no. 1 overall pick of the recent Rookie Draft, could help them reach at least the playoffs this season.
However, the 26-year-old Munzon would only be able to join the team as he is still training with Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 for the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in late May.
“I think Munzon could join us maybe early June because after the tournament, he’d still be undergoing quarantine for the safety of everyone,” explained Cardel.
But while they’re busy prepping the 5-on-5 team, Dyip will also hit the ground running for its 3x3 squad that will be led by current assistant coach Raymond Tiongco. As of now, Cardel said players who will compose the three-a-side team are Jay Javelosa, Roider Cabrera, Dhon Reverente, and Mico Custodio.
Terrafirma will head back to Batangas for another session of scrimmage this Friday but the team will now stage it at the Batangas City Coliseum from 6 to 8 p.m. —JMB, GMA News
