Hawks complete epic comeback to take Game 5, series lead from 76ers
The Atlanta Hawks overcame an 18-point fourth quarter deficit to come back and steal Game 5 against the Philadelphia 76ers, 109-106, in their NBA Eastern Conference semifinal series on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).
Trae Young scored 39 points, including 17-for-19 from the free throw line, while getting big contributions from John Collins, who posted 19 points and 11 rebounds, and reserves Danilo Gallinari (16 points) and Lou Williams (15 points).
The Hawks now lead the East No. 1-seed 76ers in the best-of-seven series, 3-2.
Atlanta trailed, 87-69, heading into the final period.
But Williams carried the Hawks from off the bench early in the fourth, at one point scoring 11 consecutive of Atlanta's points. Young then came in to finish the job, contributing 13 of their last 17 points.
The Hawks outscored the Sixers, 40-19.
Joel Embiid finished with 37 points, 13 rebounds and five assists to lead Philadelphia. Seth Curry added 36 points, including 7-for-12 shooting from three-point range.
