South Korea blows Thailand out by 67 points ahead of rematch vs Gilas


Ahead of its rematch against Gilas Pilipinas on Sunday, South Korea flashed deadly form as they cruised to a 67-point blowout of Thailand, 120-53, in the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers held at the Angeles University Foundation (AUF) Gym in Pampanga.

Ha Yungi dominated for 34 points on 14-for-16 (87.5%) shooting alongside 10 rebounds and three assists while Yeo Jun Seok added 23 points on 9-12 (75%) shooting.

Lee Hyunjung, who hit a game-tying three-pointer late in Wednesday's clash vs. the Philippines, also added 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win.

Korea's naturalized player Ra GunA, also known to Filipinos as former PBA import Ricardo Ratliffe, barely played in the contest, tallying five points and four rebounds in under eight minutes of play.

The Koreans led, 23-12, after the first quarter, but really blew the game wide open in a dominant second period where they outscored Thailand, 37-6.

They went into the halftime break leading, 60-18.

Thailand was led by Wattana Suttisin, who scored 12 points.

Thailand (53) - Suttisin 12, Ananti 11, Towaroj 9, Jakrawan 8, Chanthachon 3, Muangboon 3, Charansarn 2, Chungyampin 2, Klaewnarong 2, Jaisanu 1, Ghogar 0.

The scores: 23-12, 60-18, 85-32, 120-53.
