Baldwin agrees Gilas' Dwight Ramos has size, strength for competition like European basketball

Gilas Pilipinas coach Tab Baldwin agreed with some of the comments Indonesia coach Rajko Toroman made about Dwight Ramos.

According to Toroman, the 6-foot-4 Ramos was a revelation, not only in this window but in the previous one as well. He also likened the young Gilas star to European basketball players with his combination of size, toughness, and shooting ability.

"He’s looking like a European player, with size and (he's) very tough and athletic who can shoot the ball," said Toroman after his team's loss to Gilas on Friday.

Ramos again turned in an impressive performance on Sunday, helping lead the Philippines to a 6-0 sweep of their FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers campaign following an 82-77 win in a rematch against rival South Korea.

He scored 19 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out five assists and notched two steals in the team's latest win.

After the game, Baldwin echoed some of Toroman's earlier statements about Ramos.

"I think I’ve said that since I first saw Dwight, particularly if he continues his progress as a point guard. I think he feels the game very well, he sees the floor really well," the Gilas coach said.

"He’s got a good size and strength to be able to play in a physical, competitive competition like European basketball."

And while the future looks bright for Ramos, just how far that future takes him is still up in the air.

"Certainly, we don’t  know Dwight’s future yet but I think that this young man can play this game at a high level pretty much anywhere in the world."
