National Academy of Sports searching for potential student-athlete scholars
The National Academy of Sports (NAS) has officially gotten the ball rolling in its search for Filipino youth who have the potential to be future national athletes of the country.
Entitled 'NAS Annual Search for Competent, Exceptional and Talented Student-Athlete Scholars' or NASCENT SAS, the program started last June 18 with hopes to discover, identify, and offer scholarships to youth across all sectors including indigenous people, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.
NAS executive director III Prof. Josephine Joy Reyes said in a letter that the academy, guided by the virtue of R.A. No. 11470, envisions to carry out quality secondary education, most especially to the underprivileged sections of society.
"The National Academy of Sports (NAS) is mandated to implement a quality and enhanced secondary education, integrated with a special curriculum on sports," Reyes said.
"With its goal to search for gifted students with the potential in excelling in the field of sports, it is now conducting the NASCENT SAS."
Those who hope to be a scholar under the NASCENT SAS program must be natural-born Filipino citizens and currently enrolled as Grade 6 students or a graduate of elementary school at the time of submission of application.
They must also send out proof showing that they have potential and interest in a particular sport.
The scholarships will include free tuition, board and lodging at the NAS Dormitory in NAS Campus in New Clark City, Provision of quality secondary education, access to specialized sports training, a chance to represent the country in international competitions and exchange programs, and a monthly stipend.
The deadline of submission of applications is on July 16, 2021.
